Boiled egg water for the plants

Posted August 28th, 2008 by ju

Did you cook boiled egg for your breakfast, never throw the water from the pot. Let it cool and use it to water your plants. The boiled water have calcium which comes from the egg shells and that is very healthy for your plants.

I never knew this! I just boiled eggs for a potato salad and I could have put that cooled water on our tomato plants. I will remember this tip. Thanks for sharing it:)

Tks for the info, didn’t know about this at all. We love hard boiled eggs for breakfast and I’ve got lots of indoor plants that can use the water.

Oh wow that’s so interesting! I never knew that but I’ll be sure to do it from now on!

    I’ll try that!

Yes, I’ve been doing that for years. One other thing you can do with outdoor plants is to take and bury egg shells in the garden so your plants get those nutrients. :)

Wow, the boiled water has calcium that was good for the plants. It is true that we can save some water and fertilizer, in other words, save some money.
Nice post, wish you happy and healthy always, best wishes from coolingstar9

What a lovely piece of unusual advice … I have never heard of using cooled boiled egg water. In these times when we are all being asked to take care of the environment it is useful to have advice on how we can re-use any commodities and especially to save water … this post shows how to do both!

We don’t have boiled eggs much but my Mom is a garden maniac. She will like this tip and we will all be having more boiled eggs. :)

Great tip. I have always wondered what could be done with water from boiled veggies and eggs. :)

Hi. I didn´t know this trick either. It makes sense, eggs do have calcium and when boiling pass it to the water, like vegs pass vitamins.
I´ll try to remember because I have a few flowers in my flat. Thanks for sharing.

You can also put the egg shells in your compost pile. Just bury them in the pile so they don’t attract animals.

You can use the water from your boiled vegetable to make soup and stews. It has a lot of nutrients from the vegetables in the water. You can freeze it in small amounts to add some to your stock whenever you make soup.

It’s also good in your mashed potatoes. It replaces some of the milk and gives a bit of extra flavor to the potatoes. It’ll save some calories and fat from the milk or cream.
